HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR GLASSES AND CONTACT LENSES

GLASSES
The glasses and lenses we provide are of very high quality in both design and function, and they will last a long time provided they are appropriately looked after. Below are a few ways you can ensure the longevity of your glasses:

CLEANING
For a quick clean, it is best to use only the microfibre cleaning cloth that we provide to wipe your lenses, as this is soft enough to ensure you do not scratch the lens. Using tissues, towels, or clothing increases the risk of debris scratching the lenses.

Every few days your glasses may need a deeper clean, so it is safe to wash your glasses with cold water and some household detergent. To dry them, you can gently dab them with soft tissue, and then wipe the lenses with the microfibre cloth. Alternatively, you can bring them into our Newmarket store and we will clean them in our Ultrasonic cleaner.

ADJUSTMENTS
Since your glasses are likely to be used on a daily basis, they will occasionally need an adjustment every few months. It is important to not try this yourself but to bring the glasses back to the Optometrist you bought them from so they can be adjusted back to your head.

SERVICING
As well as adjusting the fit of the frame, with time your glasses will also need servicing to keep them performing at top function, which can be provided by your Optometry practice. This includes tightening the hinge and rims screws, putting the frame back into standard alignment, and giving them a deep clean in an Ultrasonic Cleaner. At Michael Holmes Premium Eyewear, we will service the frames you have purchased from us for the lifetime of the glasses.

CONTACT LENSES

Contact Lenses are a medical device and require strict hygiene policies due to being in direct contact with your eyes. Your eyes have a natural defence system in their tear film and cornea to protect against bacteria. Contact Lenses interfere with these natural mechanisms, leaving our eyes much more prone to infection when you are wearing them. Here are a few crucial tips to keep your eyes safe and comfortable while using them:

  • Wash & dry your hands before touching anything to do with your eyes or the contact lenses.

  • Do not sleep in your contact lenses.

  • Do not wear your contact lenses in water or hot tubs.

  • Do not wash/rinse your contact lenses with anything other than the specified contact lens solution recommended by your Optometrist.

  • Do not re-use the solution in your contact lens case - throw out any used solution at the end of the cleaning.

  • Replace your lens case at least every three months.

  • Avoid touching makeup and other foreign substances on your lenses.

  • Do not use your fingernails to remove the lenses - uses your fingers instead as this will minimise the risk of scratching your eye or tearing the lens.

If you experience any pain, irritation, redness, or blurry vision after wearing your contact lenses, see your Optometrist urgently to ensure there is no infection present.
